Gold Coast H3 2000th Run … Beach to Boonah Bike Ride Prelube
FULLY BOOKED…BUT WE DO HAVE A WAITING LIST…MAYBE SOME CANCELLATIONS
Wednesday 27 April to Friday 29 April, 2016 … 3 days/2 nights
Suitable for regular riders only … mountain or hybrid bikes only. No road bikes!!
Book Early!! … Limited beds available second night
Bike Trail …The bike trail has spectacular ocean, river, lakes, mountain and rainforest scenery and follows an interesting mix of bike paths and back country roads from Miami Beach on the Gold Coast to Boonah.
Boonah is an historic Queensland country town, situated within the “Scenic Rim” 215km from the Gold Coast via the bike trail route. It is also the venue for the GCH3 2000th Run celebrations which follow on from the bike ride. (see 2000th Run registration form).
Ride Support … A car escort directing traffic at the front so you (hopefully) don’t get lost and a back up vehicle and bike trailer at the rear for the lazy buggers who run out of puff.
Start of Ride …The ride will commence at Ocean Beach Tourist Park, situated at the southern end of Marine Parade, Miami, Gold Coast, Qld, Australia. There is long term free parking available, or make your own arrangements to park elsewhere.
Accommodation … Night 1 (Beaudesert) we stay in a choice of motel with ensuite or a twin share pub room. (see Beach to Boonah Registration Form). The camping option is not necessary on night 1 as a pub room twin share is the same price as a camp site. On night 2 (Mt Barney Lodge) the choices are a twin share room in a series of vintage Queenslander houses or camping with own tent and bedding which we will transport for you.
Bike Hire … There are top quality Specialized hardtail mountain bikes available for hire at $69.00 per day (3 day hire required). Obviously bringing your own bike is the least expensive option. Contact Slab bgib@internode.on.net or (0413201808) for more bike hire info.
Return Transport Boonah to Gold Coast … Return coach transport including luggage and bikes will be made available for return to the Gold Coast on Sunday 01 May (morning). Cost will be approx $20 pp based on numbers requiring transport.
Bike Ride Programme
Wed 27 … Gold Coast/Beechmont, Canungra, Beaudesert (85km)
Check in at Miami location from 06.30 for a 07.15 briefing and a 07.30 departure
Robbie McEwan’s “Piccolos” coffee shop (next door) will be open for own breakfast purchase.
Drop your bags (plus tent and bedding if applicable) in the designated baggage trailer on arrival.
Slab will lead out for the first 20km of the ride which follows designated bike paths and lanes, beside lakes and rivers. As we near the Beechmont turnoff we leave the bike paths and ride the road. Here we will be joined by our ride support. Day one, as with the other days, has some stunning scenery on offer including sweeping views over Hinze Dam and the Gold Coast as we head to our rustic morning coffee break at Beechmont.
Back on the road we ride through rainforest, with extensive mountain views and an exhilarating downhill leading to a well earned rest at Canungra where lunch is provided. After lunch we ride through back road cattle and thoroughbred stud farms to Beaudesert where we will check into our chosen accommodation. Drinks are provided for happy hour and then it’s on to dinner at a pre-booked venue where you can buy your own food and drinks.
Thu 28 … Beaudesert/Darlington Park, Rathdowney, Mt Barney (75km)
After (purchasing) breakfast we have an easy meander through the rich farming valleys with a regroup at Kerry.
Then it’s on to our morning coffee break in a quiet location beside the Albert River at Darlington Park.
The next stage continues along the river towards the “Lost World Valley” followed by an interesting short, sharp ride over sphincter clenching Connection Road to Hillview. We then continue on an easy trail to the small, historic village of Rathdowney for lunch in the park. Rathdowney has a general store, a coffee shop and a great old pub.
After lunch we attack the last leg and check-in at our Mt Barney accommodation. This is a truly magnificent bush setting. You can sit back and relax, enjoy happy hour and the planned GCH3 food and wine feast.
Fri 29 … Mt Barney/Maroon, Boonah Township, Outlook Resort (55km)
After a gourmet breakfast we mount up for our last and shortest days ride. We cruise out through the eucalypts on quiet roads to Maroon village for our morning tea break under the trees in the local oval. Unfortunately, no coffee shop here when we probably need it most.
We then carry on to our Boonah destination with a regroup outside the Dugandan Pub
followed by a group ride down Boonah’s main drag to the Commercial Hotel
(used to be run by GCH3 Hasher, Maggs) for Beach to Boonah finale celebratory drinks, lunch and circle.
From the pub it’s a short ride to the Outlook Resort to check in for the GCH3 2000th Run celebrations.
